The Gift of Being Spiritual

We have become so connected with the common that we fail to see anything more; living so in need of validation and approval from the status quo.

Let me clarify there is status quo in family and status quo on Sunday mornings and status quo in the workplace. Therefore it becomes impossible for us to dream because we expect someone to understand our positions in life or we expect to have seen some similarities of our lives before.

Believe this:
The “dream” and the “common” will never know each other. The two will never meet. We believe that if people don't understand us it's a bad thing, thus sometimes pushing us into a state of being lonely. We equate loneliness (a depressive trait) with being alone. However, being alone is actually a gift to everyone. Why? Because……. God deeply desires to be alone with us. This is the gift of being spiritual. He never wants to share His space with anyone else.

God motivates aloneness in our lives, but we think it's a mistake or some thing wrong. Not understanding that there is a space only He can fill.

We are encouraged by society to gain identity in the approval of someone else.

The copious outer expressions of hairstyles and apparel are influenced marketing techniques to make us feel better, positive and more in control.

We amazingly feel more in control by being controlled. If this column makes you change your hair or dress, you have missed my point.

These are expressions of a deeper issue. The issue is one of the spirit that lies beneath outer shell. Why paint the house when the infrastructure is condemned?

The issue is embracing your “aloneness”.

People whether near or far are in your life to motivate your uniqueness, but not control it. We even marry to feel better, more accepted and more approved. We drag and victimize the spouse with a responsibility that they can't fill. We then sometimes divorce searching to feel more accepted and more approved constantly being controlled by those who believe in the marriage or those who do not. It just depends on who has the most influence in our lives at the time.

So now you are expecting a spouse or some significant other (use your imagination) to do what's impossible for them to do.

No… ….not be one …..because in marriage the two of you are one. You can expect that, but……..they still can't …..

Be alone with you. There is nothing worse than being in a crowd of people and being lonely because you haven't embraced your “aloneness”.

Be spiritual and talk to God. Discover the “you” that He has made you to be. One day at a time. Take time and be who you are alone.
